Once something is posted in the feed, it may catch on and gain momentum quickly. In this scenario, many diverse users will rate and thereby train the recommendation for others. But, if it does not gain that momentum early on it can be lost in the mix and Hunch may never get the chance to gather a sufficient amount of user ratings to properly make a prediction.
Your post made me think back to an idea that has come up here before -- to make recommendations for users based on mood. This is an order of magnitude more complex than personalization as Hunch currently performs it though, but if users instead rated what mood things were good for it could be interesting.

That's a good thing, sadly it shows the shortcomings of the 5 star rating.
We need a finer rating scale, to allow for even beter tailored recommendations.
Plus this would be a powerful demonstration of the power of the taste graph.
