When are banjos updated?

My friend Albert has a gold apple for the "Professor" rank, meaning he has earned 5000 banjos teaching Hunch. But his grand total of banjos is only 2798... Are they counted/added up separately, or is there a mistake somewhere?

Thanks for pointing this out. It was indeed a bug. We were accidentally giving the "Professor" badge to anyone who had 500 banjos, not 5000. Ooops!
