"do you like this ______?"

i'm a bit unclear on "do you like this ______?"

if underneath a result it says "do you like this car?", i'm not sure how to answer. maybe i've never driven the car, so i'm going to ignore the question because i haven't tried the car yet.

on the other hand, the car looks interesting and promising. i like the "suggestion of the car", even if i'm not sure if i like the car itself.

when hunch asks me if i like something, is it asking me if i like the thing or is it asking me if i like the suggestion?

if it is the latter, a terminology change might help me. i'm finding it a bit difficult to say i like a thing i've never tried, even if the suggestion seems appropriate and promising.

Hi striatic, that's a really good question.

If we had infinite space on the results page we'd probably say something more verbose instead of just "do you like this car?". What we're really asking is something like "Given how you have answered questions in this topic that lead Hunch to give you this result and if you have knowledge about this topic area, is this ______ the right decision for Hunch to have recommended to someone like you?".

It's perfectly OK to not say Yes or No if you don't have any experience with the result that Hunch recommends. If you already knew the answer to everything already, you wouldn't need Hunch. There are some topics where you can take advice and other topics where you have expertise that you can give advice.

Hope this helps!

ah. so i should only say i like or dislike something if i have some experience with it?

that advice is very helpful. is there any way to see a list of things i said i like/dislike and edit it?

There's no way to see the yes/nos -- but you can go back and "overwrite" them by saying yes (or no) a second time.

You can see all your pros/cons here:
www.hunch.com/people/striatic/track-contributions/feedbacks/
Which you get to from you profile/ conributions

if i "skip" will that overwrite?

i marked a bunch of cars that i haven't driven [like over 50] as like or dislike based on initial impression and would sort of like to recall many of those judgments based on what i know the system is looking for.

Currently, if you select skip on these cars the system will not overwrite your previous feedback. However, in the context of selecting which car you should get, I don't think previous direct experience with a car is required.
So much about selecting the right car for the right person can be inferred from those initial reactions people have to one. Whether it is the brand's reputation with that person, the look of the car or just whether or not they think the name sounds goofy. All of these things can form a judgment that leads to a yes or no without direct experience.
If you drive these cars and it turns out later that you hate any of them, overwrite with a No. Worry not! Those yes and no votes are already helping others like you pick out just the right ride.
