Is this possible? Because it looks like there are duplicates of some things, so I just assumed that it was possible for people to add their own item/song/show/whatever. This is mostly because there's an actor that I absolutely love, but he seems to not be in the Hunch database, which made me sad. Does anyone know how to add things, or if you even can? Thank you!

What I find inconvenient about this is that there's no way to add an item without recommending it. Maybe (and frequently) I want to add an item with the intention of giving it an average or bad rating. In that case, I wouldn't want to recommend it at all - yet am forced to to add it to the database.
I'm wondering if there's a case for being able to just rate anything. Maybe the Hunch Recommendation bookmarklet could be amended so that I can click it on any page and rate what I'm looking at. Or would that cause too much clutter in the database?

I haven't logged in for a while. Now I was browsing the "multitools" topic and wanted to add an item. Shouldn't it be possible to add an item directly to a topic?

We do ask that for users to add things to Hunch.com, they actually recommend them. It is our hope that this will act as a strong filter for quality in all things while also focusing the purpose of the site. While this may decrease the breadth of listings in some areas, the overall experience will be much higher for those seeking recommendations.
With the new system, when our users make a recommendation, our own team reviews it and files it into the proper topic. Users found the process of choosing which topic to make a contribution confusing, so we now handle that task.
So, if you add a new multitool, we will file it away into the topic for you. Then, when a user searches Hunch for multitools, they'll see those with recommendations first and foremost tailored to their taste.

@Jon: Out of curiosity, could you explain what you mean by "when our users make a recommendation, our own team reviews it and files it into the proper topic"? Does Hunch still do this? Does this mean that sometimes, Hunch reassigns recommended items to a category other than the one the user placed it in? Or that Hunch adds new tags?
