Atmospheric with great '80s flare, amazing pace, wonderful direction, and quite a few shocks that are genuinely terrifying.
Cons: The explanation doesn't really satisfy anything, really, you pretty much know what's going on from the get go, but the ending more than makes up for it.
The original teen slasher. Darkly comical, great characters, chilling atmosphere, and a simple but effective story.

The original terror itself, Psycho is as potent today as it ever was. Great atmosphere, brilliant direction, and one of the best horror performances from Janet Leigh. The tension during the body disposal after the shower scene is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Cons: It's a bit cheesy, and the ending makes me giggle. But hey, it's still wonderful.
Subtle and plays to the little things that are likely to scare you when you're alone. Sets up a nice mythology too, which goes largely unnoticed.
Cons: Doesn't really pay off in the end. It stays consistently good, but never great. Despite trying their best, the leads are terrible actors and can't even play themselves convincingly.
