Not one of Harris' best, but with his track-record, that's a bit of a case of praising with faint damnation.

As with many of his books, it's a faintly depressing thriller, with elements of 'what if?', in this case based around the idea that a hedge fund in Geneva has managed to create an autonomous algorithm: slightly ridiculous end, but gripping nonetheless.

Terry Pratchett is often unfairly categorised as a fantasy writer but Snuff shows, once again, that he's one of the best writers alive today. Funny, touching and utterly human, this book is a treat. Long may he continue to invite us back into Discworld.
