Another wonderful film from Wes Anderson - as ever, it's the quirky production design, understated and witty script and magnificent performances that make this a pleasure, and also this time a genuinely funny film.

Gorey's first, and I think best, book. The story of a middle aged writer working on his latest novel in a grand old house drips with atmosphere and humour - Gorey's line drawings are wonderful as ever and the prose here is fuller and has more narrative than in much of his other work. The last page is one of my favourite lines in literature.

One of my favourite books, wonderfully written and with well-realised characters, you owe it to yourself to give this a try.

Unabashedly nerdy, gloriously funny, and often educational. But in a good way!
