An in some ways, sad, but inspiring tale based on the true story of Christopher Johnson McCandless's travels to and through the Alaskan wilderness, living a life of solitude. Directed by Sean Penn, starring Emile Hirsch. A lot more than your average 'road trip' movie. 7.5/10.

Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 critically acclaimed film adaption of John Buchan's novel. A short thriller, a man stands accused for the murder of spy. He must go on the run to clear his name, and to prevent the stealing of the top secret information of "The 39 Steps". A pretty decent film, that keeps you entertained by only revealing the secret in the very closing scenes. 7/10.

An album with dream pop and slowcore elements, accompanied by hushed - almost lullaby-esque vocals. Ordinarily a good sound, here however there is little variation between tracks making the album seem repetitive. The best the album has to offer can be found in "Daniel", "Caravan" and a good cover of "Drive" by The Cars. Okay in small doses. 5/10.

Haunted by flashbacks of the event he finds it hard to live a normal life and winds up involved in a bank heist that goes wrong. Crime-drama starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Strong performances throughout, good plot, slightly disappointing ending but an enjoyable watch overall. 7.5/10.

Regarded as one of, if not the finest Kate Bush album. Emphatically delivered vocals accompanied by a melodic mixture of tones ranging from haunting and subdued - "And Dream of Sheep"; "Hello Earth" - to passionately energetic - "Big Sky" - "Cloudbusting". An album everyone should strive to hear at least once in their lifetime. 9/10.

A film depicting the rise of organized crime in the city of Cidade de Deus (english translation: City of God), Rio De Janeiro. The story follows two individuals, one who lives a life of crime, eventually growing to become the city boss, the other choosing a life as a photographer.

Strong acting performances, strong characters and detailed story telling make this a must see. 8/10

A talented yet undiscovered puppeteer finds a portal that allows its user to live, passively, as John Malkovich for 15 minutes. He soon discovers that his skills are more useful than he originally thought... A quirky black comedy that explores the concept of self identity. 7/10.

A collection of vignettes, filmed over a period of 17 years, showcasing for the most part, the inane conversation that occurs between acquaintances over coffee and cigarettes (mostly conversation about having coffee and cigarettes). A fairly interesting insight into the process of conversation, interesting from an artistic standpoint but at times seems a little forced and unnatural. 6/10.

If one had to choose a Kings of Convenience lyric to encapsulate their sound, it would irrevocably and unquestionably be "two soft voices blended in perfection". The mellow vocal harmonies are stunning, soothing and somewhat melancholic, paired perfectly with acoustic guitars recorded so faithfully that every subtlety of the sound is reproduced. "Quiet Is The New Loud" is a great place to start.

Marmite is deceptively versatile, yet here it is filed in "Toast Toppings". Sure, it's great on toast. But it's also good in sandwiches (with cucumber, or cheese, or both), as flavouring to gravy or as a drink in it's own right (just disolve a couple of tea spoon measures in hot water). It's fairly expensive for what it is though.

The third album by The Smiths. Personal highlights: "I Know It's Over", "Cemetry Gates" and "The Boy with the Thorn in His Side" - but there's not a bad song on it.

If in an alternate dimension The Smiths were a twee band. This is how they would sound.

The guitars have that almost trademarked jangly vibrancy Marr is famous for, and the bass on some of the more prominent bass driven tracks has a Rourke like quality to it.

Nothing on this album is disagreeable. A pleasant listen for a summer afternoon.

A film drama intertwining the lives of a teenager, his former baby sitter, and her husband. Directed and adapted for screen by David Gordon Green, starring Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell - who as always delivers a strong performance throughout. A story themed around heartbreak, loss and resulting depression with engaging and incremental character back stories.

In my mind, one of the finest Low songs of all time. In which, Mimi Parker's vocals, so delicately produced and brimmed with emotion are wonderfully complemented by an outstandingly powerful guitar melody, delivered so perfectly by Alan Sparhawk - play this on some decent headphones, close your eyes, and immerse yourself. Nearly 10 minutes of Low at their finest.

It's hard to describe exactly how one feels when listening to Bark Psychosis. But they have an uncanny ability to totally absorb you in their sound. If you're a fan of mellow ambience and emotive post-rock - perhaps even a little slowcore influence, then you should definitely give them a listen.
