Great kaiseki meal experience, definitely recommend the longer course menus that include the sashimi course. The service is also really nice.

roasted duck lunch is worth visiting for. Watch out for the onions/shallots rendered in duck fat, that condiment jar will go quick.

I like this place based on the corn cookie alone

Foie Gras profiteroles are pretty outrageous...foie ice cream inside of foie-fortified choux pastry with a foie-mounted caramel sauce and dusted with shaved, frozen foie.

really enjoyable look at arguably the most revered sushi chef in the world and what it takes to be at the top of your field. All of the food-porn will make you crave raw fish.

Recently opened Northern Thai restaurant from Komi chef. Really punchy flavors, technical cooking, extremely fun service style. Fixed price menu of 7 courses for $45 pp, served family-style. With no reservations policy, be wary of the waits...but you can leave a number and go elsewhere for drinks.

though it says Thai, don't leave here without trying something off the Laotian menu. One of few places with legit Laotian cooking (almost Northern Thai). Very spicy, bright herbs, and fermented seafood elements. If you know you will be going, call ahead to request special Laotian dishes that take several days to ferment. More affordable than Little Serow, but a more bare bones atmosphere

Reopened recently after renovation. Though the soymilk is slightly less "beany" than before, it is still the best soymilk I've had outside of Taiwan. Pretty good tofu curd/pudding (dou hua), and good Vietnamese sticky rice treats

maybe the best chocolate flavor I've had, though I prefer the nut-based flavors from Pitango

Chef here worked at Palena and it shows: really ambitious cooking that is creative and shows high-technique. Interesting flavor combinations that mostly work. Lots of housemade charcuterie.

Nice little bakery in UES. Really like their new Levain Locale, naturally fermented bread made with local grains.

You can try one sample for free on a visit, but smell as many as you want. Try the Tower of London and Yerba Mate Buds.

Try the Gibraltar, their version of a cortado. It's off menu, equal parts espresso to milk that comes out to about a 4 oz tumbler. Perfect size to linger over.

My favorite donuts, far prefer them to Doughnut Plant. Make only yeast-based donuts, but the dough is so good: incredibly light and flavorful. Have a bunch of flavors here, but favorites are ones that incorporate a citrus / bright element (e.g. lemon-poppy seed, blood orange, berries). A few other businesses resell them at ~$3 each (Sit & Wonder cafe in Brooklyn, Gasoline Alley Coffee in NoHo)

If you order premium fish off the daily special section, it comes with fresh grated wasabi, which is normally a separate order with it's own charge.

Recently opened restaurant from Eleven Madison Park owners. Ambitious food at approachable prices. The foie here is comparable to EMP's: equally rich, but served with less refined and fewer accompaniments

Great service that rivals French Laundry; as attentive but less formal. Approaches Manresa in terms of food: punchy flavors, exceptional vegetables. Lunch tasting experience is only a few amuses shorter than the Dinner tasting, but at $75 cheaper per person. Do not be afraid to tell them your preferences (e.g. if you don't like chocolate desserts, let them know and they won't serve you one)

great food, amazing bread. Their City White loaf has depth of flavor approaching Tartine's Country. Shattering crust with a soft interior.
