A show-stopper (94 pts Parker) from the owner of the largest cult winery in the world. And it's quite a deal. The wine has a deep, deep color and an ultra-luxurious, layered nose of cassis, blackberry liqueur, black cherry, plum, rose petal, black pepper and smoke. It is uncannily rich on the palate, but somehow maintains form and balance. Stunning.

We don’t see many opportunities like this one: a chance to taste a four-year vertical direct from the winery’s library. Each of these beauties, from the 2002 through the 2005 vintage, is aging brilliantly. Each one is a profound expression of a wonderfully unique and rugged terroir.

This species has lived in the Pacific Northwest for millions of years – it’s practically a living dinosaur. Tsar Nicoulai’s sturgeon are raised in artesian water on a vegetarian diet, without the use of antibiotics or hormones.

This is a blend containing fruit from several different parcels of the contiguous vineyard. The wine is packed with texture and complexity. Waves of cherry, currant and subtle earth flavors develop through the expansive and velvety wine. The finish is polished, bright and youthful. This Cab reminds me of ripe Bordeaux – it’s absolutely delicious. Drink it now or cellar it through 2020.

Sourced from two separate estates on Pine Mountain, the 2008 Ispiri Maylena is a beautiful Merlot/Cab blend that subtly displays the refined nature of both its winemaker and its grapes. This is not a red wine that shouts at you; it whispers gently into your ear.

The wine has a vibrant red color, and offers sweet, juicy, berry flavors. It’s soft, with silky tannins and a supple finish. It’s the wine that’s easy to drink – not designed to make you think.

Winemaker David Jeffrey of Calluna Estate crafts wines that incorporate the balance, intensity, and longevity of Bordeaux, but in the context of Sonoma’s distinct terroir. The Calluna Estate comprises the best barrels from the best vineyard parcels each year. Aged in French oak barrels with complementary acidity and tannins, it’s rich yet balanced.

This Pinot Noir is a proud example of a finely crafted Lange wine. Its bright red color suggests the linear flavors of strawberry compote and Bing cherry, and spicy chai notes come as a welcome surprise. All of this is majestically supported atop a sturdy, elegant frame of bright acidity and lithe tannins. The spicy finish allows for an especially broad food-pairing agenda - try it with paella.

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon displays amazingly layered yet refined notes of mocha powder, wild blueberry, black currant preserves, canela and star anise. Wonderfully ripe and polished tannins for a mountain vineyard form the backbone on the palate, and a lovely underlying core of minerality adds refinement and depth.

The ’07 Columbia Valley Syrah is a soul-stirring wine made of grapes sourced from the Lewis and Boushey Vineyards, and Grenache from the Minnick Vineyard. The deep, rich violet hue sets the stage for wave after intense wave of fleshy black currant, ripe plums and savory steak tartare. Pure of flavor and supple of texture, this Rhône-style wine is artfully integrated atop a toned foundation.

With 10% of proceeds donated to rehabilitating US soldiers, we can’t think of a better wine for July 4th.

This wine has been perfectly aged at the winery since bottling and is drinking fabulously. Tobacco, spice box, and smoke complement the mature nose of dried black cherry and dried plum. A hint of yellow roses brings freshness, while a toasty, mineral component develops with a bit of air.

The wine is a dense basket of black fruits. Decadent aromas of crème de cassis, wild blueberry, and Morello cherry layered with a heady bouquet of star anise, cinnamon and baking spices carry the wine through its exceptionally rich, fruit-forward and intense finish. A wonderful backbone of loamy earth, minerality and a core of spice-driven oak balances the fruit stunningly.

On the palate, this Cabernet shows massive fruit structure with notes of red licorice and a touch of toasted cedar, but the wine remains ultra-velvety in texture and has a surprisingly silky entry and weight.
