Wole Soyinka is a Nigerian author of novels, poems, essays and plays. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1986. He offers a fascinating introduction to African life as well as political satire.

Angelique Kidjo was born in Benin in West Africa and now lives in the US. She has a wonderful way of interpreting African songs as well as music from European and American composers. This is World music. Angelique Kidjo is also an ambassador for UNICEF and is involved in many projects with relation to Africa including the unsolved problems of Darfur in sudan.

Music from Mali - a mixture of traditional Westafrican style (griot), jazz and some arabic influence. Salif Keita is fram Famous Madinke family but due to the fact, he is an albino, he was more or less neglected by the family. After some years in Paris he is now back in Bamako in Mali.

This novel is well known to many in Eastern and Southern Africa. It is not only about economical and racial discrimination but also about reconciliation. The novel was published many years before the reconciliation proces in South Africa after the fall of Apartheid.
